✌🏼IT’S THE SECOND ISSUE. What’s inside:

  • 💰Why talking about money isn’t gaudy

  • 💸Types of money talk

  • 🙂‍↕️A conversation to have with yourself

Welp, I got a lot of feedback. Some people said to make it more succinct. Some felt confused as to what I was trying to achieve (fair), and others didn’t even receive it, in what I can only attribute to hosting this beehiiv platform on a custom domain (so it looks good and also doesn’t work). I’m on a money kick, but the next email will be about growth and good finds. Let’s try this again.

Why Talking about money isn’t gaudy.

63% of Canadians actively dodge dealing with their finances - a stat that I got from another project I’m working on. Whether you decide to participate in the conversation or not, it’s happening all around you. The truth of my experience and many in my orbit, is that talking about money makes you more money. Why?

  • You realize if you’re undercharging if you’re a freelancer, or your salary is lower than it should be

  • You might learn a new trick (Norbert’s Gambit - look it up).

  • You don’t know what you don’t know - whether it’s ways to save money or a financial vehicle that didn’t exist 10 years ago…curiosity has always led to great places.

Types of money talk (a few starters…)

  1. 💼 Professional Conversations: When’s the last time you had a level-set conversation with your peers and those above you?

  2. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Boundary Conversations: Whether it’s with friends or family or even a neighbour you spotted for many coffees, have you opened up the dialogue you’ve needed to have with someone specific?

  3. 🤯 The Debt Conversation: In Canada there’s $1.80 in credit market debt for every dollar of household disposable income. It’s a signal that maybe way more people are over leveraged and not at their finances looking regularly.

  4. 💚 Relationship Chats: Depending on your relationship with a partner (cohabitating or not), might there be something in your shared expenses or experiences to give a second look?

A conversation to have with yourself

A few prompts to start a conversation with yourself in the moment:

  • What is your relationship with money? Is it healthy? Do you find yourself clenching tightly onto every last dollar or are you allowing it to flow to things you love?

  • What do I need it most for?

  • How can I be generous with what I have?

  • How much is enough?
